The week so far

Beautiful weather all week so far in Oslo. Im hoping for a mild, sunny first Norwegian winter (yea, like thats likely to happen) The cushion on the front of the rocking chair is a recent fleamarket find for only £1. Will show you my other finds later in the week....
I made this today and urge you to do the same as it's bloody lovely! Infact My New Roots is a blog favourite of mine at the moment so pop over there and check it out!

Things are slowly making their way out of boxes but i dont really having my nesting mojo back yet.
Today I slept on the sofa for 3 hours which is very unlike me but I have been having trouble sleeping since we came to Norway - I think it's just too quiet where we live, maybe I need to get one of those machines that makes water/rainforest noises (or in my case, cars zooming past) to send me off to sleep!

Another great thing about living in Norway, cheap, delicious seafood.

Fantastisk loppemarked!

See, I'm learning the important words in Norwegian (fantastic fleamarket!)
This morning I found this beauty (and I do believe its either a Kaj Franck or Raija Uosikken for Arabia?) for....... wait for it....... 10kr (£1) Im a very happy bunny today!
I found many, many great things which I will share another time. It was totally worth moving to Norway just for the Fleamarkets!

Our stuff arrived from London yesterday and Im having fun making a new home for us, but Im taking my time only unpacking things we need (and then I'll attempt to get rid of some of the crap we dont really need which I always find so hard!)

Wednesday

Just found out that all our furniture (and 64 boxes!) will turn up here in Oslo tomorrow morning!
Very excited to finally have all our stuff but also dreading all the unpacking (and will miss living in a minimalistic flat!)

Fleamarket finds

The fleamarket we went to on Saturday was full of great treasures (no wonder those Norwegians were whacking each other out of the way in order to get in first!) I managed to find some candlesticks (iittala I think) Figgjo Flint egg cups, a milk glass to match my Swedish milk and a lovely table cloth (I dont have a round table but what the hell, I could not resist the Marimekko style design!) I also managed to snag many English books (so expensive in book shops here) and Henrik found a brand new bike helmet, all for under 200kr (around 20 quid!)

The weekend

Apple, mushroom and flower picking, fleamarkets (so far I have witnessed many Norwegians acting very desperate at fleamarkets, I will never again get in the way of a Norwegian with sharp elbows, they are not to be messed with!) and picnics by the fjord are what took up most of our weekend. Now we are exhausted from being outdoors all the time!

Oscarsborg

Im not a lover of history or war, but Henrik is, so I have spent many a day being dragged around various historical ruins etc. Yesterday was one of those days. As it was Henrik's birthday the day was his choice so off we went to Oscarsborg with his folks. A ferry trip, a buffet lunch (did Henrik really need 5 pieces of cake?) and a guided tour made sure Henrik had a great Birthday! (just realised that I didnt take any pictures of the actual fortress! oops!)

Happy Birthday Henrik!!

In typical man fashion I woke Henrik with a birthday cake this morning, he opened his presents, blew out his candles and went back to sleep!!! (Im even tying to be a traditional
Norwegian wife by adding flags to the cake, Norsk Stylie!!!)

Sweden

Yesterday we had a little trip to Sweden to buy cheap(er) food so we now have a well stocked fridge and our cupboards are full of lovely Swedish products (not that I have anything against Norwegian products, other than the price!) I also had to contain myself at the iittala outlet store (with no job yet I cant really justify buying anything other than essentials!)

A typical Norwegian breakfast. Brunost, a goat cheese thats made in a special way making it all caramelly, sounds awful but it's really very good especially with a bit of jam on top.....

Holmenkollen
is just 10 minutes from our house. I love how Oslo is surrounded by either water or forest.

s

We got up early to visit a fleamarket but were disappointed to find only four stalls!
Maybe all the rain has kept everyone inside?
Outside I can smell woodsmoke as people start to light fires, I love the smell....

Friday

Job hunting for Henrik, lunch in the garden (I estimate we have eaten at least 100 crispbreads since we arrived here!) Today it is dark and pouring with rain and Im feeling homesick :(
